quality vs. quantity

Just as the 12 Signs are divided between the Elements of Fire, Earth, Air, and Water - they are divided among the three Qualities of Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable.

There are three signs represented in each Element:
FIRE = ARIES, LEO, and SAGITTARIUS
EARTH = TAURUS, VIRGO, and CAPRICORN
AIR = GEMINI, LIBRA, and AQUARIUS
WATER = CANCER, SCORPIO, and PISCES

Of the three signs in each Element, one will be of Cardinal quality, one of Fixed, and one of Mutable:

ARIES is the CARDINAL FIRE sign
LEO is the FIXED FIRE sign
and SAGITTARIUS is the MUTABLE FIRE sign

TAURUS is the FIXED EARTH sign
VIRGO is the MUTABLE EARTH sign
and CAPRICORN is the CARDINAL EARTH SIGN

GEMINI is the MUTABLE AIR sign
LIBRA is the CARDINAL AIR sign
and AQUARIUS is the FIXED AIR sign

CANCER is the CARDINAL WATER sign
SCORPIO is the FIXED WATER sign
and PISCES is the MUTABLE WATER sign

The Element describes the place a sign operates from: Fire signs operate from Instinct, Earth signs from Sense. Air signs operate from Thought, and Water signs from Feeling.

The Quality describes the way in which a sign operates: Cardinal signs are born leaders, the entrepreneurs, the examples set, and sometimes, the boss of you. Fixed signs are typically stubborn and set in their ways, but they are also the ones who can stick with a project or a plan until the payoff. Fixed signs are loyal and true to their word. Mutable signs are adaptable, the ones who keep everything moving. Mutable signs are the very best at going with the customary flow, adjusting to the circumstances and living up to When in Rome. But the Mutable signs can also be accused of wishy-washiness, and never quite knowing where they really stand.

The Cardinal signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn. Cardinal signs are Ambitious, they like to initiate things. Cardinal signs like to be first. Each year, the moment that the Sun moves into one of the Cardinal signs is the moment that we begin a new season: the day the Sun moves into Aries is the Spring Equinox, the day the Sun moves into Cancer is the Summer Solstice, the day the Sun moves into Libra is the Autumn Equinox, and the day the Sun moves into Capricorn is the Winter Solstice.

The Fixed signs are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius. Fixed signs are well known for their will. They are people who can hold a grudge until the end of time, but also people who will work toward what they want for even longer than that. Fixed signs stick tight to what they know and believe. The Fixed signs occur during the height of each season: Taurus happens in March and April, when Spring is just starting to kick in. Leo happens with the heat waves in July and August, Scorpio happens in October and November with the leaves. And Aquarius happens in the dead of winter, January and February, the days when the winter seems a hundred years long.

The Mutable signs are Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces. The Mutable signs act as the bridges between the Fixed and Cardinal signs. They're the ones who can find a way to show a Fixed sign the brand new ideas a Cardinal sign is wanting to implement, and get the Fixed sign almost even willing to make a change. Mutable signs are receptive and empathetic. They are so adaptable to their various circumstances that they can be accused of not having their own legs to stand on, of always conforming to whatever is going on around them. The Mutable signs happen during the cusps of the seasons: Gemini happens in May and June when Spring is just turning into Summer, Virgo happens in August and September, when it's still crazy hot but the Summer is coming to an end. Sagittarius happens in November and December, when Winter's on its way but not biting us just yet, and Pisces in February and March, the days when we finally start anticipating Spring again.

Again, just as with the Elements, these are only a very few words that can describe the motivation behind each Quality. And again, we all have some variation of all three Qualities operating in our basic make-up. Think about the Quality of your Sun sign, vs. the Quality of your Moon, and your Rising Sign as well if you know it. Some might have a Cardinal Sun, with a Mutable Moon and a Fixed Rising - giving them a balanced combination of all three Qualities, while some might have a Cardinal Sun, Moon and Ascendant - making them that much more apt to exhibit Cardinal traits. Which Quality resonates the most with you?

~Beginning with the first sign, Aries, the Qualities occur in the same sequence throughout the Zodiac: Cardinal, then Fixed, then Mutable, then Cardinal again:

ARIES CARDINAL FIRE
TAURUS FIXED EARTH
GEMINI MUTABLE AIR
CANCER CARDINAL WATER
LEO FIXED FIRE
VIRGO MUTABLE EARTH
LIBRA CARDINAL AIR
SCORPIO FIXED WATER
SAGITTARIUS MUTABLE AIR
CAPRICORN CARDINAL EARTH
AQUARIUS FIXED AIR
PISCES MUTABLE WATER

Earth Wind and Fire. And Water.

The first thing about astrology is the elements. Out of the 12 signs, three of each are either Fire, Earth, Air, or Water. Once you get how each element works, you get a basic idea how those signs operate.

The Fire signs are Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. Fire operates from Instinct. Fire can be expressed as Creativity, Passion, Energy, Anger, Spirituality, Motivation, or Lust. Fire can be warm and generous, it can be a hot temper. Fire signs are typically outgoing and extroverted but they can also be still and focused in pursuit of their passion. Fire can engulf or it can be a flicker, Fire spreads, but it can also be contained and used as a tool.

The Earth signs are Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. Earth operates from the Senses. Earth signs understand what they can see and touch and prove. Earth can be expressed as Practicality, Foundation, Work, Materialism, Ambition or Sensuality. Earth can be soft and sensual, it can be cold and unyielding. Earth signs are typically reticent and introverted but they can also be charming and welcoming. Earth can be solid, muddy, shaky, dirty or pure.

The Air signs are Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. Air operates from Thought. Air can be expressed as Communication, Logic, Conversation, Nerves, or Gossip. Air can be fast and furious or gentle and reassuring. A breeze, or a hurricane. Air signs, like Fire, are typically outgoing and extroverted - but sometimes the constant chatter of the Air stays mostly in the thoughts and the nerves.

The Water signs are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. Water operates from Feeling. Water can be expressed as Emotion, Compassion, Depth, Mystery, Mire or Melancholy. Water can be infinite and unknown, it can be the very most comfortable place to be. Water signs are introverted and receptive but they can be as powerful and overwhelming as thunderstorms.

It's important to remember a couple of things. First ~ these are just a few of billions of words that could be used to describe each element. It's kind of like trying to describe the color Blue. Just like a color, an element has endless ways it can be expressed ~ it's more about getting the gist of its basic nature.

Second, it's impossible to sum up any one person based on their Sun Sign alone. Every one of us has each of the 12 signs somewhere in our basic make-up. The Sun is in one sign, but so is the Moon, and Venus and Mars and Mercury, and all sorts of planets and points. That said, we're all influenced by the four elements in varying degrees. Which Element feels most comfortable to you?

Think about the Element of your Sun Sign vs. that of your Moon Sign. If you know your Rising Sign, throw that in there as well. If you're an Aries with Virgo Rising and a Capricorn Moon that makes you Fiery as well as Earthy: you operate from Instinct and Passion but there's a certain Practicality in your make up as well that helps to ground you. If you're a Gemini with Libra Rising and an Aquarius moon you're all Air and chances are you spend most of your time thinking and communicating and thinking some more. A Sagittarius with Cancer Rising and a Libra Moon would be Passionate, Emotional and Social all at the same time but the Practical element of Earth would be missing and they might never have a sense of stability. And that's just one possibility. Again with the color Blue.

***Beginning with the first sign, Aries, the elements occur in the same sequence throughout the Zodiac. Earth follows Fire, Air follows Earth, Water follows Air, and we go back to Fire again:

ARIES FIRE
TAURUS EARTH
GEMINI AIR
CANCER WATER
LEO FIRE
VIRGO EARTH
LIBRA AIR
SCORPIO WATER
SAGITTARIUS FIRE
CAPRICORN EARTH
AQUARIUS AIR
PISCES WATER

Horoscopes for December 22 - 28 2008

NEW MOON ON MONDAY ASTROLOGY
HOROSCOPES FOR DECEMBER 22-28 2008

**If you know your Rising and Moon signs, read for those as well!**

GENERAL FORECAST
It’s the time of the season. Yesterday’s Winter Solstice brought the Sun into Capricorn to join Mercury, Jupiter and Pluto and by the end of this week Mars and the Moon will be there as well. Capricorn is an Earth sign that’s all about ambition and forging ahead – doing whatever it takes to reach the top of our mountains. This is the kind of energy that will be dominating the next few weeks. Saturn, the planet that rules Capricorn, will be turning Retrograde next week in Virgo, another Earth sign and staying that way for the next five months. Planets going Retrograde are all about revisiting past situations and getting second (and third!) chances to get something right. With Saturn involved, it will be all about establishing and re-establishing our foundation. Mercury, the planet that represents communication, will also be turning Retrograde in the next two weeks and revisiting territory in Capricorn – time to get our shit together!

On a lighter note, Venus the Grace and Neptune, the planet that represents our imagination and unconscious, among other things, will be hooking up this weekend in Aquarius, an Air sign that’s a lot about humanitarianism and what we can do to help all the people around us. This, in conjunction with Saturday’s New Moon in neighboring Capricorn, will be putting a more compassionate spin on the holidays. There’s sure to be gold wherever you look for it! Be Well.

ARIES
It’s all about priorities. Trying to do too many things at once will only scatter your energies. Use the New Moon in Capricorn to make some resolutions about where you’d like to be a year from now, and what you need to do to get there. Some hints come this weekend as your Mars ruler makes his first contact with Pluto in Capricorn, a sign that’s all about plowing through and doing the right thing. You’re more than capable of being responsible while staying true to your sense of spontaneity and this is the week you get a chance to prove that to yourself.

TAURUS
Keep your eyes on the real prize. Something very strong is guiding you toward your true potential this week: you have support from Mercury (Communication) and Saturn (Foundation) in fellow Earth signs, and you get your gumption back this weekend when Mars (Energy) joins the other planets in Capricorn. Look for things and people that you hope will be around for many years to come – that’s where you should be focusing. Your Venus ruler moves into a friendly Water sign next week: by then things get better with the love stuff.

GEMINI
The next few weeks are all about organizing your most out-there thoughts. Your Mercury ruler making supportive moves toward both Saturn and the planet Uranus gives you the impetus to do just that, and the hookup between Venus and Neptune in a fellow Air sign throws even more fuel on your already hyperactive imagination. Next week Mercury will join Neptune in Aquarius, bringing clarity as well as creativity. Mars leaving Sagittarius, your opposite sign, helps calm your nerves and whatever you’ve been getting all worked up about. Happy Holidays!

CANCER
Mars joining a team of planets, all in your opposite sign could be bringing some cold hard reality, and you’re trying to escape by getting lost in your own imagination. But Saturday’s New Moon in Capricorn brings the perfect chance to use your sensitivity toward the good of others: you have the power to bring all sorts of comfort to those around you this Christmas, and doing so will only help to heal yourself. Chatty Mercury makes contact with the planet Uranus in a fellow Water sign: expect one of these people to be someone completely unexpected.

LEO
Your Sun Ruler hooked up with powerful Pluto overnight, bringing the beginnings of a brand new, very important chapter. Use this week to do whatever you must to help get it started. People who’ve been waiting to hear from you will be so glad you did. The merger between Venus and Neptune in your opposite sign has you looking for attention in all the wrong places. Turn the focus back to yourself and you’ll be able to find a fresh start. The Moon in a fellow Fire sign over the holiday means nothing but the best of times. Have fun!

VIRGO
This week your world won’t get turned upside down. With more and more planets in a fellow Earth sign you’re having an easier time losing the chaos and getting things back to normal again. The New Moon in Capricorn helps you to see all the ways you’ve begun to use your courage to push past limits that have been holding you back for years. You’ll have even more chances to prove this starting next week when Saturn turns Retrograde for five months at the height of your sign.

LIBRA
Keep your balance. The more you let small problems trip you up, the more they can snowball and steal your self-confidence. This week’s New Moon in a challenging sign is all about proving how well you’re able to get it all done. The test is in making sure you know this for yourself. This will be a theme for you until mid-Spring, so don’t be too hard on yourself, and by all means don’t try to be perfect. Your Venus ruler hooks up with Neptune, the planet that rules our imagination. This happens in Aquarius, a fellow Air sign, and can only mean a prettier spin on all your holiday plans. The best part is, you totally deserve it.

SCORPIO
Pluto, the planet that rules you, is visited by both the Sun and Mars this week, bringing another turn in the spotlight. Be creative: you’re trying to get the attention of someone specific but it’s crucial that it be the absolute best kind of attention. You’re scared of speaking up for fear of saying the wrong thing but it’s important to jump in anyway. Use your words. By next week, you’ll be glad you did. All New Moons are perfect for beginnings and this one is likely the beginning of a very important relationship.

SAGITTARIUS
No strings attached. Mars is the last of the planets to leave your sign for Capricorn at the end of this week. You’re free to wander about, just the way you like it. The Moon in your sign over the holiday brings simpatico vibes from all the people you’re celebrating with, and the merger between Venus and Neptune in friendly Aquarius is even more about the best of times. Saturn turning Retrograde from a challenging place next Wednesday could bring the need to revisit some heavy responsibilities. Have as much fun as you can right now.

CAPRICORN
With a whole team of planets ganging up in your sign, you’re feeling the weight of the world. Use the energy to keep being productive, or it can easily turn into fear. Try not to be too conservative with your resources, or your affection. The New Moon in your sign is pushing you to see beyond people’s actions to their true motives, and this is increasing your compassion a thousand percent. Your Saturn ruler is about to turn Retrograde in Virgo, a fellow Earth sign, for the next five months. By next Summer you’ll be seeing clearly what this is all for.

AQUARIUS
What you’re going through right now is all about teaching you something you’ll very much use in the New Year. As soon as next month you’ll be getting to bigger places and taking things to levels that right now you’re only dreaming about. The hookup between Venus and Neptune in your sign is bringing a shiny new circumstance that will be growing strong until September of 2009. Remember what’s going on right now so you can reference it next fall. This week you’re able to formulate the very best kind of plans. Cheers to your big ideas.

PISCES
Neptune, the planet that rules you, merges with the grace of Venus just as the Moon turns New in a friendly sign, and this puts a better spin on the entire situation. Mercury sends you good vibes on Christmas Eve, helping you turn any connections you’ve been making into important bridges to further opportunity. The only danger this is in being too complacent. Things are going so right you’re hesitating to make any new moves, but this week, that’s exactly what you should be doing. Even the tiniest baby step is about to take you to way better places.

Horoscopes for December 15 - 21 2008

**If you know your Rising and Moon signs ~ read for those as well! **

GENERAL FORECAST
Mars challenges Saturn this afternoon, bringing demanding situations back to the front of the class. Whatever responsibilities you put off over the weekend are likely to rear their heads today. Take care of what you must and know that the rest of the week will be primarily about how you’re feeling and reacting to what’s happening right now. In other words, it’s all in your mind. If you’ve been on the right track it should be easy to see all that you’ve accomplished since Thanksgiving. If not, it will be tempting to focus on other people’s shortcomings instead. The Sun’s move into Capricorn early Sunday morning brings the Winter Solstice. Big changes are on the horizon, and next week’s New Moon means a much-needed fresh start.

ARIES
You can get all the work done, as long as you find the creative spin. Make your to-do list into a game and you’ll find yourself checking things off faster than you’re hoping for. Use this week to do as much as you can while energy is on your side. Big times are ahead as both the Sun and your Mars ruler join several planets in Capricorn, a sign that challenges your own. Your responsibilities won’t be disappearing any time soon, but the more you learn to keep them under control right now the better off you’ll be by the end of the year.

TAURUS
You’re seeing only what you want to see in a personal situation and giving it way too much attention. Bring the focus back to your own actions, rather than the other people involved. You don’t accept second best from anybody else and you shouldn’t be accepting it from yourself. The Sun’s move into a fellow Earth sign over the weekend brings you a better sense of direction. Keep the focus on where you’d like to end up. You’ll be ready to get going as soon as next week’s New Moon. By then Energy, Discipline, Power and Luck will all be on your side.

GEMINI
Last week’s big news is still heavy on your mind, and you could be getting angry about it – but chances are you’re choosing to look the other way instead. Support from Venus and Neptune in a fellow Air sign makes it all too easy to get lost in the love stuff. Or better yet, the creativity. The next few weeks will be bringing plenty of support to your artistic pursuits – start thinking of new ways you can express the things you’ve been going through, it’s time to start getting it out. The Sun leaves Sagittarius, your opposite sign, bringing a big sigh of relief. You’re about to have a wonderful weekend.

CANCER
Don’t panic: the discipline is there but it’s up to you to find and use it. Things are becoming more obvious as the Sun joins Pluto, Jupiter and Mercury in Capricorn, your opposite sign. You’re feeling the heat from every direction but it’s important to realize there’s plenty of help available all around you. All you have to do is ask for it. You’ve had to make some heavy adjustments in the name of cooperation lately and this is the week you see just how well that’s paying off.

LEO
Use the support from Mars and your Sun ruler in a fellow Fire sign to get as many things done as you can toward the beginning of the week. The Sun’s move into Capricorn and subsequent hookup with Pluto are bringing some powerful changes, and chances are, you can already sense just where and how things will be different as soon as the end of this year. Remember it’s about having the courage to be 100% completely you, and stand solid behind what you believe. The more you can give this to yourself the more you’ll be able to share it with the people you love.

VIRGO
The challenge from Mars toward Saturn in your sign brings the last echoes of the problems you’ve been facing lately. But by now you’re more confident about the situation. This week’s energy could turn into anger, or it can be used to motivate all the people around you to help you get something constructive accomplished. It’s up to you to control it, but with Saturn in your sign that is coming easier and easier these days. Things will be improving generously as soon as this weekend when the Sun joins up with other planets in Capricorn, a fellow earth sign.

LIBRA
The good news is you’re more than able to deal with whatever’s popping up in a way that’s more creative than confrontational. The challenge is in keeping your head on straight. This week you’re tempted to ignore, or even resist authority, and as more and more planets move into Capricorn you’re being faced with more and more demands. Get ready to face up to some big changes that will hit hard as soon as next week when the Sun merges with powerful Pluto. Choose competence over confusion.

SCORPIO
You’re back to blending in. The biggest challenge right now is in not giving too much energy to illusions that have been testing you for days. Make sure you’re seeing what’s actually in front of you or you could find yourself exposed once again as soon as next week, when both the Sun and Mars move into Capricorn and merge with your Pluto ruler. You’re about to be given a tremendous amount of energy and now is the time to plan how you’re going to use it.

SAGITTARIUS
Everything’s about to fall into place, but it’s up to you to take the initiative. The last days of Mars in your sign brings a good opportunity to get things done, but a challenge from Saturn the Authority could mean you want absolutely nothing to do with what you should be doing. Find the way to focus. Your imagination is on overdrive this week, but used the right way it can enable you to get it all together and give this chapter a definitive end. The more you can do that now, the more room you’ll have to enjoy yourself next week, which is all about the good times.

CAPRICORN
Something you’ve learned in the last few weeks is pushing you toward helping others over pursuing your own ambitions right now. It’s all about what you can do for the people around you. This is the time to surround yourself with friends, family, and the entire community and look for ways you can improve things for everyone’s benefit. This goes far beyond giving advice. People will remember your kindness in the coming days. The Sun’s move into your sign Sunday morning marks the beginning of a brand new chapter and Mars is soon to follow. Next week: everything hits at once.

AQUARIUS
You’ve reached a new level of confidence in the way you’re living and this is the week you learn to use it right. You’re looking for genuine experiences more than meaningless encounters right now, and attachments more than just attention. As Venus and Neptune merge closer together at the height of your sign you’re more able to see just how you can make that experience out of things you encounter in your day-to-day world. It’s all about perfecting your perspective.

PISCES
The resources are out there but it’s up to you to find them. Mars in a challenging sign continues to zap your energy but your thoughts are having no problem running a race and you’re having a hard time reining them in. Finding your focus is the main test this week. Remember that it’s not so much about what you have as much as what you’re doing with it, and you’ll soon see all the ways you can turn what’s confusing you now into something completely creative.

Horoscopes for December 8 - 14 2008

**If you know your Rising and Moon signs, read for those as well! If you'd like to be on the mailing list, please email me at NMOMA08@gmail.com**

GENERAL FORECAST
We’ve all got some big work to do and things are about to come to light. The Sun gets up to all sorts of business this week, making contact with both the discipline of Saturn and the chaos of the planet Uranus. Struggles between authority and rebellion that have been building since October reach defining moments, and something unexpected is bound to change the rules for us all. The people who accept the changes will be the most likely to find success, but there are sure to be those who hold on too tight. The Full Moon in Gemini happens Friday morning, right before Mercury, the planet that rules Gemini, moves from Sagittarius to Capricorn and hooks up with transformative Pluto. Thoughts are sure to be racing. Watch out for a gregarious weekend: by then people will be all about escaping into daydreams and debauchery.

ARIES
You’re about to get some absolutely crucial information. Mercury’s move from a supportive role to a challenging one makes it important to process whatever comes up in a healthy and objective way. Look for how whatever happens this week is creating exactly the space you need. Friday’s Full Moon in friendly Gemini could bring some small but interesting twists, or even a short-term, fairy-tale romance. Make sure you see the good stuff.

TAURUS
Challenges from both your Venus ruler and Neptune could be bringing some issues with the love stuff. Stay focused on the big picture over the next few weeks, which are better for preparation than action. You’ll be back to the real work by the end of the year. For now it’s important to make sure you’re ready. Use this time to get in touch with anybody you’ve been putting off. Mercury’s move into a supporting role early Friday morning means you get your words back.

GEMINI
It’s going to be an intense week. The gregarious Full Moon in your sign happens right as your Mercury ruler moves into Capricorn to merge with powerful Pluto. Accept big changes with your usual curiosity, and know that grace is still on your side. The things that happen outside of your control right now are reflecting adjustments you’ve been meaning to make for yourself.

CANCER
Everybody’s talking at you. Mercury’s move into your opposite sign brings vigorous communications, and with Pluto involved, the words are sure to be powerful. If you’re looking for trouble, you’re liable to find it. Avoid feeling too thin-skinned by keeping your mind more on your to-do list and less on the sensitive debates. Getting things done is the best remedy for forgetting how you feel about it.

LEO
Friday’s Full Moon in friendly Gemini ushers in a weekend full of people to see and places to go. Make the most of this because the next few weeks could be more about playing it solo. You’re seeing evidence all around you of the current struggle between Authority and Rebellion. Watch out for something completely unexpected that changes all the rules. The good news is that whatever comes up is giving you creative ammunition you’ll be able to use for a long time to come.

VIRGO
You’re looking for a tangible foundation, the place where everything makes sense. Remember that it’s all about your perspective and you’ll find the way to stay cool and collected this week as the Full Moon in confrontational Gemini shines a bright light on all the challenges you’re going through. You’re learning new and better ways to stand up for yourself. The habits you’re forming right now will stay with you long after this situation’s passed you by.

LIBRA
You’re getting some bonus attention this week. Venus, the planet that rules your sign, is sitting pretty in Aquarius, a fellow Air sign. This brings some good times and high highs, especially during this weekend’s Full Moon in Gemini, also an Air sign. Use the energy to get out and about and make the most of it. Mercury’s move into challenging Capricorn and consequent merge with Pluto is bringing big news to the picture. The next few weeks will put the focus on becoming prepared. It’s a lot more about speaking up for what you need and a lot less about the manners.

SCORPIO
Just because you get found out doesn’t mean you need to change what you believe. This is the time to be absolutely proud of the things that make you different. Certain things about your make-up that don’t conform to those around you are being exposed, and Mercury’s meeting with your Pluto ruler means people will be talking all about it. There are plenty of ways to make this energy work for, rather than against you. Use the recognition to make new connections, by the end of the year you’ll be glad you did.

SAGITTARIUS
Sagittarians aren’t known for being homebodies, but this week you’re all about staying shut in. There's something big you're trying to make sense of. A challenge from Saturn is bringing cold hard reality to the forefront and you could be hiding from the unfamiliar weather by getting lost in self-indulgence. Do your best to wait it out. You’ll have more time and space to think next week when The Sun and Mars leave your sign for Capricorn. By then you’ll be ready to do the work.

CAPRICORN
Think about all the things that are challenging you right now. It’s likely there’s a pattern among them, some repetition that involves whatever you’re having a hard time letting go of. Mercury hooking up with Pluto in the first degrees of your sign brings the first hints of big changes that are stepping up to the plate. It will definitely be necessary to release some old beliefs or habits before the year is through in order to adjust to the new chapter. The Sun’s challenge toward your Saturn ruler puts the focus on where you need a better foundation. Work on making it solid.

AQUARIUS
Last week you got some surprising news. This week that information throws a loop in your whole situation. Luckily Venus in your sign is making you well equipped to deal with things gracefully, and the Full Moon in a fellow Air sign is shining the spotlight on your chance to realize a certain potential. It’s all about making whatever amends you must in order to do the right thing. Ignoring the problem will only lead to recklessness and right now you’re on the way to something much, much better.

PISCES
Last week’s challenges echo loud as both the Sun and Mars challenge the planet Uranus at the height of your sign. The Full Moon from duplicitous Gemini exacerbates the situation and it’s likely that a whole new side of the problem will arise. And you know it don’t come easy. Make whatever small sacrifice you must to keep the peace and you’ll likely get some unexpected and generous rewards as soon as Saturday, when the Sun’s nod to your Neptune ruler brings some balm to a rocky week.

Horoscopes for December 1-7, 2008

**If you know your Rising and Moon signs ~ read for those as well!**

NEW MOON ON MONDAY ASTROLOGY
HOROSCOPES FOR DECEMBER 1-7 2008

GENERAL FORECAST
Venus and Jupiter hooked up in Capricorn overnight, putting focus on the pretty things. If you’ve been looking to get noticed it could very well be happening right now. Communications will be on overdrive this week when Mercury makes contact with both Saturn and the planet Uranus. Watch out for interrupted conversations all over the place and try not to get frustrated when nobody’s getting back to you on time. Also, beware of heated discussions that don’t get resolved: any struggle you’ve been having with authority is about to come to a head when the Sun and Mars move together through that same territory next week. Venus moves into Aquarius for a four-week stay on Sunday afternoon, bringing a more unconventional slant to the love stuff. For the next two weeks, it’s all about strutting your weird side.

ARIES
Pushing your luck. There’s something you’ve been fighting way too hard for and it’s starting to strike back. People around you will remember what you’re doing and saying now for the rest of this season: do your best to keep your lid on - no matter how frustrated you’re feeling. It’s all about learning to understand how you operate. The less impulsive you act this week, the better you’ll fare this weekend when the Moon in your sign brings a fresh dose of the good kind of energy. Venus moving into a friendlier sign Sunday afternoon means better luck with the love stuff for the rest of the month. Patience.

TAURUS
Pluto’s very recent move into a fellow Earth sign is bringing the beginnings of a brand new chapter. It’s going to be more about what makes you better for you and less about the material things. Think about where you’d like to be fifteen years from now and take the time to shape your vision. There are all sorts of unexpected doors and windows waiting to be found, but only if you’re looking for them. That search includes letting go of some long held expectations but remember – the thought of doing this is much, much scarier than the actual process.

GEMINI
Watch your words. Anything that comes out all wrong now could be used against you as soon as next week. Saturn, the planet that rules limits and discipline, as well as the planet Uranus, which represents rebellion and sometimes even chaos, are challenging your Mercury ruler. If you’re having any issues with authority it’s important to find a positive connection to focus on, rather than trying to get your point across in any kind of underhanded way. Venus brings the grace to help you do this by the end of the week, when she moves into Aquarius, a fellow Air sign.

CANCER
Projection. You’re exaggerating the actions of others based on your own subjective perceptions. Dispensing more than your usual share of criticism isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as long as you make sure it’s happening in a constructive way. The sooner you stop being so hard on the people around you, the sooner you’ll find a way to be easier on yourself. Pay attention to the details, but beware of the busy work. Pluto’s move into your opposite sign for a 15 year stay is bringing some big new themes. This week is all about teaching you how to put your power to good use.

LEO
Leo is ruled by the Sun, and this week’s alliance between the Sun and Mars will be amping your energy to a whole new level. Make sure you use the drive in the right ways, or it could come back at you from the outside in. Chances are you’ve been feeling your own personal version of writer’s block for a while now. This is the time to dive in and express the things you’ve been putting off, no matter how much easier it would be save it for another day. You’ll be rewarded for your efforts with some solid conclusions as soon as next week.

VIRGO
You’re all shook up. The wrong things are hitting the wrong nerves and your energy is working against you. Blame it on a series of contacts from the personal planets in Sagittarius, a sign that challenges your own. The good news is the merger between graceful Venus and lucky Jupiter in a fellow Earth sign. This is giving you some strong support: remain as faithful as you can toward the people who’ve always had your back and you’ll easily find the stable ground to stand on.

LIBRA
Your Venus ruler hooking up with lucky Jupiter is bringing something big, and you have to make a difficult choice in the meantime. Support from planets that represent Emotion (the Moon) and Communication (Neptune) means you can put a fairy tale spin on your current relationships, but make sure to stay true without putting anybody up on a pedestal. It’s a lot about how you’re seeing yourself and living up to that perception. Venus entering a fellow Air sign this weekend puts a friendlier spin on the situation: soon enough you’ll know for sure you’re going in the right direction.

SCORPIO
True love will find you in the end. You’re getting used to dealing with the completely unexpected, but having a hard time accessing the imagination side that accepts it’s all a dream come true. The merger between Venus and Jupiter in friendly Capricorn could bring some good luck with the love stuff, but it’s up to you to trust it. Do your best to work through any issues this week or it could turn out to be the calm before the storm. Mercury, the planet that’s all about talk, hooks up with your Pluto ruler next Friday: expect to be explaining yourself all over again.

SAGITTARIUS
You’re having a monster of a time deciding whether to follow the rules or just start all over, and this is the week you’ll have to talk about it. As much as this won’t be an easy conversation, it’s about to bring you to a much better place. Venus hooking up with your Jupiter ruler brings bigger grace to your usual blatant ways, helping you to get your point across. Make the right moves and you’re liable to bring something you’ve only dreamt about into tangible reality. The trick is in staying calm, and not being contrary just for contrary’s sake.

CAPRICORN
The Venus/Jupiter alliance at the height of your sign brings charm and good looks in the biggest of ways. Be ready to be recognized for all the things you’ve been doing right. Mercury’s challenge to your Saturn ruler could bring some hard talking in the meantime. Make sure to choose your words carefully, as whatever comes up this week is liable to be a theme for a long time to come. Venus leaving your sign for Aquarius on Sunday makes this a time for thinking about the good things you’ve found in November, and how you can make use of them in the future.

AQUARIUS
Get used to moving. You haven’t had the gumption you’ve needed in ages, but now that your Uranus ruler has returned to forward motion you’ll be able to find it all over again. This is a good week to revisit resolutions: the Moon in your sign at the beginning of the week is all about fresh starts and the Sun/Mars conjunction in friendly Sagittarius gives you the energy to do it right. Venus moves into your sign Sunday afternoon, giving you a better dose of the grace and all things pretty.

PISCES
The shit’s about to hit the fan. Things you’ve been trying desperately to avoid are coming up in casual conversation, and it’s important to avoid lying by omission. The more up front you can be, the better you’ll stand next week when things that you're talking about right now get pushed even farther into the spotlight. Dig deep. The meeting between Venus and Jupiter in a friendly sign gives you all the support you need to do the right thing.

Horoscopes for October 27 - November 2 2008

**If you know your Rising Sign, read for that as well!**

ARIES: This week is all about experiences that bring adventure but solidify your foundation at the same time. For example, a job or project that brings more work than you’re used to but allows you to travel places you’ve always wanted to go or a new relationship with someone who’s lifestyle is completely foreign but who’s about to bring you everything you’ve been looking for. Chances are good that these experiences will come completely out of the blue. Make sure you’ve got your head on straight and your ducks lined up, and go with what happens. You’re moving in the right direction.

TAURUS: The New Moon in your opposite sign sets off the theme of Ambition. Where do you have too much and what’s it doing for you? What is it doing against you? Watch for something unexpected that gives you a quick and hard lesson about how you’re looking in all the wrong places for something you don’t even need. This is especially important because Neptune – a planet that’s all about dissolving the worldly and material things we just don’t need – is about to turn direct from a challenging sign. Find the real prize, and keep your eyes right there.

GEMINI: Your Mercury ruler makes the last of this season’s three contacts with imaginative Neptune in a fellow Air sign – look for something you’ve been trying to achieve on a creative level since the Fall began to reach its peak this week. Think back to the last half of September and track the steps that led you to where you are now: chances are you’ve come much farther than you’d realized. Take what you’ve been working on to the people who need to see it, hear it, read it or feel it – the energy is right this week for them to do exactly that.

CANCER: Dedicate yourself to the unseen potential. The New Moon in Scorpio, a fellow Water sign brings new life, new love, new ideas all over the place. Anything you imagine can be tapped this week as long as you’re looking for it. It’s all about where you’re letting your feelings take you – whether that’s down to where everything’s safe or out and about to where there’s adventure to be had. Chances are right now you’re leaning in the second direction, and uncharacteristically looking for results that are completely unexpected.

LEO: Be prepared for an overflow of creativity. Mercury and Neptune have one last dance before Neptune turns Direct in Aquarius, your opposite sign. Neptune represents our imagination and the collective unconscious and that planet’s been traveling backwards since the beginning of the Summer – this could well be part of whatever’s been blocking you. The New Moon in Scorpio colors the next four weeks with its energy: the shadow, the hidden, the taboo. Consider how these themes fit into the project you’re currently working on and you’re liable to find a fresh new direction.

VIRGO: The New Moon in a compatible sign is all about fresh starts and resolutions. Take a minute before Tuesday to think about where and how you’d like to get a new lease on a certain situation. Your Mercury Ruler interacting with Neptune gives your creativity a boost, and Mars making a friendly move toward Saturn in your sign gives your energy a giant push to help you along the way. This is the week, and very likely the month you’ll be able to accomplish whatever you set your mind on.

LIBRA: Use this week’s New Moon energy to take a fresh step into your new routines. Neptune turning Direct in a fellow Air sign means your creativity is working with rather than against you. It’s the right time to put something you’ve been wondering about down on paper for once and for all. You’ve got something to give and the more you can express that this week the more you’ll be rewarded. You’ll be on the receiving end as well but try to offer more than you’re taking or it’s bound to catch up with you later.

SCORPIO: The New Moon in your sign is amping your ambition to a whole new level. This is the perfect week to take the first steps toward where you think you should be. Mars in your sign is giving you an extra push toward seeing an extra level of potential. Creative Scorpios may be feeling blocked this week but that should change over the weekend when Neptune returns to Forward Motion. Concentrate on the business side of things until then, you’ll be glad to have it all taken care of.

SAGITTARIUS: The New Moon in Scorpio coincides with a friendly move from energetic Mars toward your Jupiter ruler. If your energy was scattered, or even nonexistent last week, chances are you’re about to get back the gumption and the focus. Neptune returning to Forward Motion helps dissolve any boundaries you’ve put up for alleged self-preservation. The time is right to take big risks you’ve been considering, especially on a creative level: people are ready to listen.

CAPRICORN: The New Moon in Scorpio, a friendly Water sign, is a fresh time to begin a new chapter or readjust something that’s been needing to change. Right now you have the ability to turn your characteristic discipline into something that brings you big experience – but you have to do the work of looking for where that can best happen. This New Moon highlights the resources that we collectively share and this is in perfect alignment with what you’ve been working toward lately: what is it you do best? And how can that help the rest of us?

AQUARIUS: Your temper might be at odds with what you’re trying to accomplish right now– especially when dealing with authority. The New Moon in challenging Scorpio means any themes that surface are likely to persist for the next month or so. Hold your tongue as best you can and wait until next week before taking any action. Neptune in your sign finally returns to forward motion after a five-month Retrograde, and a repeat push from Mercury, the planet that’s all about communication - means your thought process could be on overdrive. Use any extra energy to build on your ideas and be creative; this is the way to avoid any unnecessary temper tantrums.

PISCES: Neptune, the planet that rules you, returns to Forward motion this weekend, helping to push you in the right direction and Tuesday’s New Moon in Scorpio, a fellow Water sign, brings optimal energy for any kind of fresh start. This is a good time to take responsibility for yourself in all the places you’ve been letting someone else be in charge. It’s not that you can’t handle the details, it’s that you haven’t been able to get them straight. But this week brings you a renewed sense of focus and the ability to see what you need to change and the ways you can do it all for yourself.
